Jake Green
British, born 1980.
Jake Green is a part-time artist and full-time vinyl junkie. His drawings come from a private hoard of references - album sleeves, VHS covers, odd magazines and family portraits. They are the visual debris of a life spent collecting things other people forgot.
His drawing process is meditative, line by line, taking pleasure in the eye to hand connection. This close focus, and a lesser concern for the overall composition, results in the proportions quietly drifting. The pieces resolve into something slightly off, the faces somewhere between affectionate and unsettling.
His ongoing series Accidentally Grotesque references this involuntary slippage. In his own words: "I try to draw them nice, but they always come out this way." It's a sincere process rather than a stylistic pose, which gives the work its strange, lopsided warmth.
Jake is represented exclusively by KOFF.
